On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, the armed forces of Turkey crossed into Kurdistan on Gara Mountain in Dhuk Provence. Soldiers moved in on the ground while helicopters and war planes bombed from the air. Gara is located 50 kilometers northeast of Dhuk, a city governed by the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq. The fighting is ongoing.
We Kurds in the United States unequivocally condemn the Turkish government’s military operations on Kurdish soil. Kurdish children, women, and men are under grave threat of life and livelihood as the planes and soldiers destroy homes and livestock. Indeed, Kurdistan itself is under threat. A foreign government has once more ignored Kurdish sovereignty and sent an army across our borders.
We call upon all Kurds everywhere in the world to speak as one voice and condemn the actions of the Turkish government against our people. We call upon the United Nations to stop the Turkish government from carrying out “Operation Eagle Claw.” We cannot allow the massacre of Kurds to continue.
